Volleyball, Lacrosse, Water Polo, Rugby, Tennis, Baseball: The Gaels have Successful Results in Competitions Over the Weekend

Club Sports weekend competition secured notable wins in and around the Bay Area, Southern California, and Utah

Club Sports weekend competition secured notable wins in and around the Bay Area, Southern California, and Utah. With the competitive season underway, 12 of the 15 competitive club sports represented SMC on March 16 and 17 and prepare for the playoffs this April.

Men’s Volleyball

Saint Mary’s College Men’s Volleyball hosted Santa Rosa Junior College on Saturday, March 16. The team settled in after the first match with aggressive serves and successful passes. Logan Milestone ’27 was clearly the go-to player of the match, scoring points and several blocks at the net. And defensive plays by Andrew Carney ’27 kept the Gaels alive during the long rallies. Final scores saw your Gaels winning three out of the four matches. 

 
Men’s Lacrosse

Saint Mary’s Men’s Lacrosse upset UC Davis in a fierce match-up against the higher-ranked Aggies. As a result, the Gaels moved up in the rankings and are looking forward to a playoff seeding to continue into late April.

Women’s Lacrosse

Women’s Lacrosse hosted UC Davis in Moraga at the recreational turf field on March 17. The Gaels’ dominance in the league continued in preparation for playoffs with a 11–4 win over the Aggies.

 
Club Baseball

The Club Baseball team swept Cal Poly Humboldt in a two-game series on Saturday, March 16. Game one, the Gaels won 10–2, game two 2–0.

 
Club Tennis

Club Tennis traveled to Southern California for the USTA Spring Invitational. They competed against the University of Northern Colorado and UC Merced, and the Gaels came away victorious in the silver consolation bracket.  

 

Women’s Water Polo

Women’s Water Polo ended wrapped up the March 16–17 weekend with the team’s first-ever winning record at the championship tournament. The Gaels defeated UC Santa Cruz, University of San Francisco, and UC Davis.

 
Men’s Rugby

Men’s Rugby , with Captain Kaipono Kayoshi MA ‘24 leading the charge. Thousands of Gaels fans are looking forward the the next battle on the pitch—against UC Berkeley on the SMC campus on March 23.

 
Stunt

Collegiate Stunt tournament took place at William Jessup University, where the Gaels represented SMC in the four rounds of competition.
