Mission

The Center for Equity and Excellence in Teaching (CEET) is committed to providing resources and support to all who teach at SMC, and to promoting and celebrating excellence in pedagogy and instructional design. Our aim is to build a community among the teaching faculty and instructional staff, and to provide opportunities to enrich and enhance teaching practices. We offer programs and resources throughout the year to support faculty across disciplines and schools at all stages of their careers to help create an excellent learning environment for all SMC students.

Accessibility and Course Design Workshops

A series of workshops on Universal Course Design is co-sponsored by CEET and Student Disability Services (SDS). The goal of this series is to provide faculty with best practices in the field of creating accessible course material, and will include hands-on training sessions during which participants will have the opportunity to implement UDL-inspired practices into their own classes.

Equity in Pedagogy and Grading Workshops

A series of workshops on equity in classroom instruction, course design, and grading is co-sponsored by CEET and the Office of Assessment and Educational Effectiveness. The goal of this series is to provide faculty with the opportunity to reflect on their own pedagogical approaches including grading and to facilitate discussion on the importance of identifying equity-gaps and teaching with cultural relevance to achieve academic success for all students.

Programs and Activities

Peer Teaching Feedback Program 

provides faculty the opportunity to partner with each other to improve and innovate all aspects of teaching through course observations, syllabus and course material review, and student feedback survey consultation. 

Faculty Learning Community (FLC) 

invites a small group of faculty to participate in the discussion of a variety of pedagogical topics, methods of teaching and learning, and course designs.
