The Performing Arts Department of Saint Mary鈥檚 College presents the Saint Mary鈥檚 College Dance Company鈥檚 annual spring dance concert 鈥淪oaring.鈥

鈥淪oaring" showcases a variety of works choreographed by our esteemed Dance faculty and performed by our students of the Saint Mary鈥檚 College Dance Company and Baile Folklorico Guadalupano. The concert will feature Baile Folklorico (Mexican folk dance), Hip-hop, Modern/Contemporary Dance, Tap and West African Dance. Join us for this special dance concert, and enjoy the talent of our award-winning students.

The faculty have been reflecting on various topics related to the idea of soaring. Micah Sallid is creating a dynamic tap piece about love and how we move through it. Through comfort, instability, joy, and insecurity, we find ways to experience love at its fullest. Pope Flyne will once again showcase Ghanaian culture which affirms each dancer's journey weaving a tale of tradition, empowerment and self-discovery. Baile Folklorico Guadalupano will feature the regions of Chihuahua, Tamaulipas Norte, and Nayarit led by Rogelio Lopez. Our Hip Hop ensemble will debut with choreography by Riy Mutakabbir. For the modern and contemporary works of the evening, Shaunna Vella is creating a work that is a reflection of dealing with uncertainty, building relationships through turmoil, and learning to trust. Rogelio Lopez is exploring how many voices can lead to chaos when no one is listening, asking us to make choices to move through it. Dana Lawton is portraying the deep connection between nature, feminine power and collective unity. Crystaldawn Bell is discovering the way forward when dealing with trauma. The evening culminates with a tribute to our graduating Seniors with a piece choreographed by CatherineMarie Davalos in collaboration with them. This work features both student companies and blends several dance genres as a love letter to the graduating class of 2025. Once again, our Lighting is designed by the remarkable Matthew Cohen
