Original Saint Mary’s Dance Piece Earns a Place at Nationals
Erica Hardy's “Falling in Syncytium” earns praise at regional conference, chosen to represent the Northwest Region at the National College Dance Festival in May.
Let’s hear it for Saint Mary’s College Dance Company: At the American College Dance Association Northwest Region conference in February 2025, they performed two student works—and one, choreographed by Erica Hardy ’25, “Falling in Syncytium,” was chosen for the Gala performance! Judges praised the choreography, the maturity of SMC’s dancers, their exquisite performance, their strong dancing, and their ensemble work. This speaks to the caliber of the students as well as the training and outstanding faculty in SMC’s Dance program.
Even more exciting: The adjudicators also chose the work to represent the Northwest Region at the American College Dance Association National College Dance Festival in May! Held every two years, this festival showcases dances from each of the regional conferences, selected for outstanding artistic excellence and merit, and highlighting on the national stage the best of choreography and performance created on college and university campuses.
The eight dancers in Erica's piece—Cadence Godwin '25, Erica Hardy '25, Macy Johnson '26, Liam McCullar '25, Gianna Ottati '25, Lu Price '25, Isabella Rollins '26, and Alessandra Smith '26—will be traveling to Washington, DC, May 2–4 to present the piece on a national stage.

Congrats to all of these students, in addition to the others who attended the ACDA regional conference: Ella Bush ’28, Citlali Gallo ’25, Natalia Narvaez ’27, Mel Parlan ’25, and Anya Tang ’26.
