ǿմý has officially launched a new Master's of Science in Computer Science program and is welcoming applications for Fall 2025. Rooted in the College’s Lasallian and liberal arts tradition, the new program will equip students to become capable professionals while instilling a clear sense of social responsibility and ethical innovation.

A fully online program, the new MS in Computer Science was designed for working professionals, recent college graduates, and those looking to transition into the field. By taking part in synchronous weekday evening courses, students can complete their graduate degree in the span of one year.

The curriculum will cover the foundations and latest developments in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and algorithms. Students can also count on “a consistent emphasis on justice and technology’s societal impact,” says Udayan Das, Program Director of Computer Science.

Das, a researcher and educator who joined Saint Mary’s in 2021, sees the new degree as an opportunity to broaden the College’s reach. “What sets Saint Mary’s Computer Science program apart from others is, first and foremost, the culture,” he says. “This is an institution where people are the priority. We care about our students, and we care about creating a better, fairer world through cutting-edge technology.”

Building the Future

The new graduate degree is the latest expansion for Saint Mary’s rapidly growing Computer Science department. In recent years, the department launched two undergraduate Computer Science majors—a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science—as well as an online Computer Science Certificate

Located in the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area, Saint Mary’s offers students unparalleled opportunities to network and score competitive internships with industry leaders or groundbreaking startups. Students also get plenty of real-world research opportunities, from modeling artificial neural networks to using Python to help unlock algae’s biofuel potential.

Alice Baldridge, interim dean of the School of Science, believes the MS in Computer Science is launching at precisely the right time.

“For over 160 years, Saint Mary’s has been committed to offering a transformative education that is accessible to all,” Baldridge says. “The fact that this degree is entirely online means we can now bring the Saint Mary’s mission and culture to anyone, anywhere.”
