The Saint Mary’s College Kalmanovitz School of Education is excited to announce the creation of the new Forensic Psychology Department. One of few in the Bay Area, this department will be the home of programs such as the Master of Arts in Forensic Psychology, the Trauma-Informed Treatment and Intervention Certificate, and the Double Master of Arts in Counseling and Forensic Psychology. Students will develop the skills needed to approach their work and analyze their world through the lens of forensic psychology, guided by Lasallian pedagogy.

The MA in Forensic Psychology program is one of only a few of its kind in California. Students focus on the intersectionality of social justice, psychology, and the law, and they develop the skills necessary to critically evaluate the criminal justice systems through work both in the classroom and in the field.

Students can also earn a Double Master’s in Counseling and Forensic Psychology. This degree program brings coursework in counseling—designed to give students the skills, knowledge, and training to help make a positive difference in individuals’ lives—with the specialized focus that forensic psychology provides. The combination will allow students to more thoroughly delve into the nuances of and similarities between both programs. Graduates of this double degree program meet the requirements to pursue Professional Clinical Counselor (PCC) licensure through the Board of Behavioral Science (BBS).

The Trauma-Informed Treatment and Intervention Certificate program focuses on discoveries regarding the varied impacts of trauma on the human mind—and how to work with individuals toward positive change. Students will develop the skills needed to recognize and address signs of PTSD, and learn to build supportive networks for communities that have been impacted by traumatic events. This certificate program is open to anyone who has completed a Psychology course during their undergraduate studies.
