Fourteenth Annual Pat Vincent Dinner Celebrates Tom Oneto ’65
Men's Rugby Benefit Dinner
Tom Oneto ’65 was the guest of honor for the Rugby Alumni Association at the 14th Annual Pat Vincent Dinner, an annual fundraiser event for the Men’s Rugby team. This year, over 250 guests attended the event to celebrate Oneto as the Lifetime Achievement awardee who was honored on Saturday, November 18, at the Soda Center.
“Tom has been an integral member of the SMC Rugby Mentor program since its 2010 founding. He successfully managed the program for five years and continues to be an integral component of its continued growth and success.” –Coach Tim O’Brien
The evening began with recognition of sponsors, appreciation for the support from current and past players, and visions of future endeavors for the Stadium Clubhouse. Following the recognition, the 2023–24 captains shared their experiences being on the team and what they hope for for this coming season. Their passion for the rugby experience at SMC was attributed to Coach Tim O’Brien, who spoke with the audience about the collective strength needed to succeed on the pitch.
O’Brien also spoke of the important role that honoree Tom Oneto has played in nurturing the rugby program, which is a perennial national powerhouse. “Tom has been an integral member of the SMC Rugby Mentor program since its 2010 founding,” O’Brien said. “He successfully managed the program for five years and continues to be an integral component of its continued growth and success.”
SMC alumni from the 1960s to 2023 were in attendance, along with their friends, spouses, and parents of current players, who enjoyed gathering for the annual fundraiser for the team.
Next up, the Gaels play at home on December 2 at Saint Mary's Stadium. View the season schedule here.
