LGBTQIA+ Relationships
Healthy relationships all look different. It is up to individual persons to identify what works best for them. But what all healthy relationships have in common is a commitment to equality and respect for each other.
Is My Relationship Healthy?
Healthy LGBTQIA+ relationships often involve resiliency, uniqueness, and a safe place for both partners to be themselves. Some signs of a healthy partnership may include:
- Partners who respect chosen gender pronouns or name
- Partners who respect your boundaries
- A partner who gives you space to hang out with friends and family, in and outside of the LGBTQIA+ community, without thinking you are cheating
- A partner who doesn't take your money or tell you what to buy
- Never threatens to out you to people
- Never tells you you're not a real lesbian, gay man, trans person, or whatever you identify as because you don't have sex the way they want you to
If you identify as LGBTQIA+, you may have unique concerns or face obstacles that others may not face when seeking help, especially when you are first coming out. Know that you are not alone. There are places on and off campus who can help.
